A predatory nightmare summoned from the darkest recesses of the unknown, the Shambler is an Eldritch miniboss that lurks in blackest pitch, dropping Ancestral trinkets when killed. Maybe he got a string of failed retreats? I know last time I accidentally ran into a Shambler,* it took a few tries to retreat successfully. If you're playing with standard options, however, retreat is not a guaranteed success. Why didn't you just retreat.? You can retreat starting up to round 2, since you can't retreat if you get surprised. Did you know theres a Darkest Dungeon Official Discord server with 11k+.

Still, the real suprise was two of my heroes becoming virtuous during this battle making the desperation more intense as they fell one by one to this incomprehensible thing. Make no mistake, Darkest Dungeon is not a case of Hard Levels, Easy Bosses.
